Denmark Stage Stop House
Our Green Practices
We are a "green" establishment based on our construction practices.  All buildings were
constructed with optimal insulation and air sealing measures, making all of our structures very easy
to heat and cool.  Prior to construction and throughout construction of the new building and
addition we benefited by Energy Audits from
Energy Audit Me to guide us.  This allowed us to use
the most energy efficient building practices even in the 200+ year old original structure.  All new
windows are Low E and all glass entry doors have the highest ratings in the industry.  Additionally
we use thermal window treatments which keeps rooms warmer in the winter and cooler in the
summer.  All lighting is either CFL or LED lighting and when necessary are disposed of properly.
All windows in the original 200 year old structure have been replaced with energy efficient windows
as well.

We give our guests the option to reduce heat in the cold weather months by utilizing electric
blankets, mattress pads and even heated toilet seats, reducing the need to use excessive fossil
fuels and making our guests more comfortable.  Our guests will always have control of the
heat/cooling and how much, but most guests find they do not need high heat at night, due to these
"extras".  But even without these aids our heating costs are far below even the most energy
efficient establishments.

We utilize on-demand hot water heaters, meaning hot water is heated only when called upon and
not sitting in a storage tank that needs to be heated all day and all night long.  We heat the main
portion of the house with wood pellets and use oil only as a supplement on the coldest nights.  We
heat the entire premises, 4,600 sq. ft. for only $1,620.00, which also includes our annual propane
for cooking and water heating.  This is below what many people spend on their homes alone.  We
are a happy to share our secrets with you when you are here.

We use only natural cleaners to clean units spic and span, when possible.  Our first priority is to
keep our units clean and bug free and to this end sometimes we must bend the rules a bit.
Additionally we only use area rugs sparingly.  Not only is this better for the environment but since
we are pet friendly, it helps to reduce allergens for our guests.  We let you tell us how often you
want us to replace your linens, every day or every three days, at the most - it is entirely up to our
guests where linens are concerned.

We donate used soap bars, linens, etc.  We supply items such as shampoo, conditioner and body
wash in dispensers reducing the need for individual plastic bottles.  We even use all the plastic
bags the wood pellets come in as our trash bags throughout the property year round.

Since this is a farm we utilize composting whenever possible.  Our guests always note how "green"
our grass and pastures are.
